JULIA SPENCER AUTOBIOGRAPHY / UK ARTIST

I studied fine art at Manchester and Gloucestershire Art Colleges.  As my children grew up, I really began to develop my painting techniques.

I paint mostly in watercolours and acrylics, the majority of my paintings being landscapes, waterscapes, portraits and most especially, aircraft.  Many of these paintings I had been commissioned to undertake.

As a glider pilot myself, I was particularly interested in the sky, the atmosphere and the Freedom of flying and being in tune with the elements.  These feelings I have tried to capture in my work.

I have always loved the sea and more recently, have tried to capture it in all its moods.  The combination of sea, air and movement has been running through my veins for years and has led me to windsurfing, learning to windsurf as well as painting it.  I love the feelings of freedom, joy, exhilaration and the adrenalin this boardsport offers, and I hope I express this in my work.

I am extending my artistry to winter sports such as snowboarding, as well as other watersports, using other media such as pastels, oils and mixed media, well in between surfing and teaching.
